Monotony

In some ways, monotony is necessary.

The sun rises from the east & sets in the west. Every single day. I wonder, does it ever get bored? Imagine, if the sun one day decided I have had enough of this- time to rise up from the west & set in the east…the havoc it will cause all around the earth.

In some ways, monotony is comforting.

I have watched my father go to work every single day of his life. He gets up, bathes, dresses up in his best clothes, does puja, eats lunch for breakfast & goes to his showroom. It brought him solace until covid came & disrupted it completely. Now, suddenly all my father does is watch a lot of movies in his tab or the TV & struggles to find his place in the house. Everyone seems to be busy besides him. His son & daughter are busy with their daily jobs, mother manages the house, what does he do? How does he contribute?

In some ways, monotony brings discipline

A routine is really underrated. Knowing what I am going to be doing the next day especially in this lockdown has helped increase my productivity manifold. In fact, I have realized that I am the type of person to whom sudden surprises can put me in disarray.

I have also come to realize, creativity & discipline are those toxic friends where creativity is co-dependent on discipline to exist in this world while discipline loves to play hard-to-get.

In some ways, monotony means you are lucky

How seldom do you find people bored of their lives? Stuck in the cycle of sleep, eat, work, repeat- most people don’t even realize the purpose of their lives. “ Why was I born?” Only the people who realize that they are stuck in monotony realize these questions.

With the era of Ranbir Kapoor movies, came this idea of breaking the monotony & being free. Yet, not really understanding what this freedom really means & what to do with that freedom. I realize that whenever I have had the taste of freedom, I have ended up being caged in a Netflix series or show. That sadly, is not freedom. Not for me at least. Till the time I find the true meaning of what brings me freedom, monotony is fine. Just fine.
